What to expect out of a doula…
Supports you.
The greek meaning of the term “doula” is “women who serve.” A birth doula provides physical and emotional support during pregnancy and delivery and can help those first couple weeks at home. They are by your side, encouraging you and your partner.
Provides information.
A birth doula offers nonmedical techniques during labor, such as breathing, massage, and helping you move into different body positions during labor. when questions come up during pregnancy, doulas can provide information and knowledge to help you navigate your pregnancy journey.
They make a difference.
Research shows that families who have a doula at their birth can lesson the risk of emergency cesareans or other interventions. According to a 2017 Cochrane Review, many women reported that they had less need for medical intervention and had increased satisfaction with their labors overall using a doula.
